The game unfolded with quiet early innings as both teams’ pitchers held strong. However, the Diamondbacks broke through in the 3rd inning when Ketel Marte drove in Blaze Alexander with a single to left, setting the tone for what was to become an explosive offensive night for Arizona.

By the 4th inning, the Diamondbacks began to pull away. A double by Alexander drove in Eugenio Suárez, doubling the lead. The scoring continued in the 5th inning with Randal Grichuk doubling to left, bringing Suárez and Christian Walker home, pushing the lead to 5-1.

The Giants briefly responded with a solo homer by Jorge Soler in the bottom of the fourth, but that would be the extent of their scoring. Montgomery’s debut was otherwise flawless, as he held San Francisco to just four hits in six innings on the mound.

In the 7th after Moreno doubled to center, driving in two runs, Blaze Alexander laid down the hammer with his first career grand slam, which brought Walker, Alek Thomas, and Gabriel Moreno home, devastating any Giants’ hopes of a comeback.

Alexander finished 3 of 5 at the plate, driving in five runs, improving his batting average to .348 on the season.

Jordan Montgomery’s debut was highlighted by his outstanding pitching and substantial support from his teammates at the plate. Facing two-time Cy Young winner Blake Snell, the Diamondbacks tallied 22 hits, with Ketel Marte spearheading the charge with four hits from the leadoff spot.

Arizona’s 22 hits tied a franchise record, which was set against the Phillies on August 23rd, 2013.

The Diamondbacks will be back in action tomorrow, with first pitch at 1:05, as they aim to continue their momentum with ace Zac Gallen on the mound.
