Spencer Strider to Undergo MRIs After Start Against Diamondbacks

After pitching four innings against the Diamondbacks on Friday, Braves’ pitcher Spencer Strider revealed that he had been dealing with significant elbow pain.

Strider is now scheduled to undergo MRIs to determine whether he requires the dreaded Tommy John Surgery.

During his start against Arizona, Strider surrendered five earned runs on seven hits and three walks, with his fastball showing slightly below-average velocity.

Last season, Strider finished fourth in Cy Young voting after amassing 20 wins and leading the league with 281 strikeouts, averaging nearly nine strikeouts per start.

This injury concern arises at the same time as Guardians’ ace Shane Bieber announced that he will undergo elbow surgery.

While some may attribute this surge in elbow injuries among starting pitchers to the pitch clock, the epidemic is widespread across Major League Baseball as the list of affected players continues to grow.

Stay tuned for further updates on the extent of Strider’s injury.
