GLENDALE — If NFL teams want a scare this Halloween season, State Farm Stadium against the Arizona Cardinals isn’t the place to find it.

The team at Casino Guru created an NFL Stadium Scare Index to determine how intimidating NFL stadiums are for visiting teams, analyzing 1,333 home games from 2021 to 2025. The findings arrive just in time for the scariest week of the year and offer a spooky assessment of Arizona’s home-field advantage — or lack thereof.

The Scare Index took into account visiting-team losses, points scored, turnovers, sacks, and penalties, all factors that can make a road game harder. By those measures, State Farm Stadium has given visiting teams little reason to fear.

Opponents won 68.3% of their games in Arizona during the five-year study, meaning almost seven of every 10 visiting teams left with a win. Visiting offenses also scored more points at State Farm Stadium than at any other NFL venue, averaging 25.9 points per game. Opposing quarterbacks were sacked just 1.80 times per game — the lowest rate in the league.

Arizona finished with a Scare Index score of 27.8, ranking 32nd out of 32 teams as the least-scary place to play in the NFL.

The findings also tie in with the Cardinals’ struggles at home this season. Arizona has lost to the Seattle Seahawks on Sept. 20, the Detroit Lions on Oct. 11 and the Denver Broncos on Sunday, leaving the team winless at home and extending its losing streak at State Farm Stadium to 10 games dating back to last year.

This latest loss adds another frightening chapter to an already troubling home-field history. With the stadium ranked as the NFL’s least-intimidating stadium over the past five seasons, the Cardinals have plenty of work to do to change that reputation.

For now, State Farm Stadium has everything of an NFL-caliber venue, but the numbers show it’s missing the one thing every haunted house needs: some fear factor.

Until the Cardinals can make opposing teams feel fright when they’re on their way to Glendale, their home stadium might be more treat than trick for the rest of the league.
