It only took reaching six 3-pointers 26 times in the regular season for Devin Booker to finally surpass this mark and set a new career high tonight against the New Orleans Pelicans.

Booker finished with eight 3-pointers, 52 points and nine assists as the Suns (44-31) defeated the Pelicans (45-30)  124-111. This was Booker’s third straight game scoring at least 50 points against New Orleans, joining only Wilt Chamberlain (10 times) to score 50 or more against the same team three consecutive times.

“Shoutout my family in the house,” Booker said to AZ Family postgame. “My high school, Moss Point in Mississippi, it’s about an hour and a half, hour and 45 away, so I have a lot of family here. They’ve been showing up and showing out since my rookie year. Over 50-100 people here, so always have to put on something special for them.”

His seventh 3-pointer came with 10:33 to go in the third quarter to give Phoenix a 79-56 lead.

“I finally got over (six),” Booker said.

This stat does not translate to the playoffs, as Booker has three games of seven or more 3s in the postseason. His career high in the playoffs is eight in the Suns’ Game 6 closeout victory in the first round over the Lakers during Phoenix’s 2021 NBA Finals run. Booker had 47 points in this game.

Entering tonight, Booker was shooting 18-of-64 from 3 in 10 the last games since returning from an ankle injury.

He turned this around right away with five of his 3-pointers coming in the first quarter alone. Booker finished shooting 8-of-16 from deep and 19-of-28 from the floor.

Booker first notched six 3-pointers during his rookie season on Jan. 19, 2016 in a 97-94 loss to the Indiana Pacers. He was only one 3-pointer away from tying the Suns’ franchise record of nine, which Grayson Allen has done three separate times this season.

The Suns now only have seven games left and win the tiebreaker over the Pelicans to close out a five-game road trip. These two teams will meet once again in Phoenix on April 7.
