Diving Into Arizona’s 6-10 Ranked Varsity Boys Soccer Teams

After talking about the state’s top-five ranked soccer teams in a previous article, I will now be diving into the teams ranked 6-10 according to MaxPreps.

#6: Shadow Ridge (9-0), 6A

The Shadow Ridge Stallions have started the season off with nine straight victories and are outscoring opponents 38-5. The team has dominated on both sides of the ball, shutting out opponents in six of their nine games played. After a 17-2-3 record last season, they have only improved. Their leading goalscorer to start the season is junior striker/midfielder Jacob Engwall, who has eight goals and one assist in his eight games played. Shadow Ridge has proven to be a top team in not only the 6A but in the entire state. They will look to make a deep playoff run and potentially come away with a state championship.

#7: Arizona College Prep (9-0), 4A

The Arizona College Prep Knights have consistently embarrassed opposing teams this season, outscoring them 43-1. Defensively, they are second to none and have become a matchup nightmare for other teams. The Knights finished last season with a 20-5 record, as they made it to the semifinal of the 4A playoffs. However, they fell short 4-0 to the Salpointe Catholic Lancers who went on to win the championship. While the Lancers are currently ranked ahead of the Knights, that may not be the case for much longer as Arizona College Prep attempts to bring home the 4A championship.

#8: Tuscon High Magnet School (6-1-1), 6A

The Tuscon High Magnet School Badgers fell short 5-3 to the eventual champions Perry Pumas in the 6A playoff semifinals last season. The Badgers have gone three seasons straight where they lost in the semifinal of the 6A playoffs. The team has been consistently contending and has proven to be able to keep up with anyone in the conference, but they have not been able to get over that hump as of late. Tuscon High has started the season off strong and will look to get past the semifinal and bring home a state championship.

#9: Kofa (8-0), 5A

The Kofa Kings are another team that has yet to lose this season. They have pulled out eight straight victories and outscored opponents 51-3. They have given up a goal in just two of the eight games played, showing their defensive dominance as a unit. Kofa finished last season with a 16-7 record and entered the 5A playoffs as the No. 12 seed. However, they lost a close 3-2 battle against the No. 1 ranked Ironwood Eagles in the semifinal. The Kings have played at an unbelievable level through eight games and should be considered as one of the 5A championship favorites this season.

#10: Perry (7-2), 6A

The Perry Pumas are the reigning 6A state champions, as they finished last season with a 19-2-3 record and defeated the San Luis Sidewinders 2-0 in the state championship. The team has started the new season 7-2 and has not necessarily dominated offensively like other highly ranked teams, but they are playing as a collective and that is what won them a championship last season. Senior Aidan Yen has yet to score a goal this season but has a ridiculous 11 assists on the team’s 24 total goals. While they are not the top-ranked team in the 6A or state as of right now, the Pumas proved last season that they are the team to beat in the 6A.
