GLENDALE — The NFL trade deadline is almost here, and teams are calling around the league to bolster their rosters — with one team apparently checking in on an Arizona Cardinals standout.
The Denver Broncos have checked in around the league on tight ends, going so far as to ambitiously — and some would say outrageously — check on Cardinals star Trey McBride, who is from Fort Morgan, Colorado, and played at Colorado State. The Cardinals made it very clear they have zero intention of trading McBride.

According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Denver Broncos have inquired around the league about bolstering their tight end group. One player they called about is Arizona tight end Trey McBride, a move Schefter described as “ambitious” and, by some accounts, “outrageous.”
It’s not that McBride doesn’t bring everything a team could hope for in a promising young tight end. He’s been one of the most consistent players at his position this season, recording 66 receptions for 544 yards and five touchdowns in eight games.

This builds on an already career-best year in 2025, when McBride recorded 126 receptions for 1,239 yards and 11 touchdowns. His 126 catches set a new NFL single-season record for receptions by a tight end and was given first-team All-Pro honors.
For Denver to have called about him makes sense, considering what McBride brings to the table. However, his age and contract situation make the possibility of a deal unlikely. McBride is just 26 years old and signed a four-year contract extension in April 2025 that keeps him in Arizona through the 2029 season.

That is a significant commitment from the Cardinals, reflecting how important McBride is to their long-term plans. He’s not only one of the best tight ends in the league but also a central piece of Arizona’s offense.
Schefter reported that the club made it clear they have zero intention of trading their star tight end. While Denver was certainly ambitious in checking on McBride’s availability, it appears the conversation ends there.

Arizona knows what it has in McBride, and it has little reason to let him go.
