GLENDALE — The Arizona Cardinals wasted little time making changes to their quarterback room following their dramatic comeback win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, naming Gardner Minshew their new starting quarterback and moving Jacoby Brissett to third string.

The changes come after Brissett was pulled from Sunday’s game with the team trailing 17-3 late in the third quarter. Head coach Mike LaFleur said the move was made to generate a “spark” within the team. That spark came in the form of Minshew, who helped rally Arizona to a 33-30 overtime victory over Dallas.
Minshew completed 17 of 23 passes for 188 yards and three touchdowns in his first action of the season. His performance included a game-tying 13-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Michael Wilson with just six seconds remaining in regulation, sending the game into overtime.

Although kicker Chad Ryland missed the extra point that would have given Arizona the lead, he redeemed himself with a 42-yard field goal in overtime to seal the victory.
The performance was enough to earn Minshew the starting job moving forward. With Brissett dropping to third string, rookie Carson Beck has been promoted to the backup quarterback role behind Minshew.

For Arizona, the quarterback change represents an opportunity to build on the momentum of Sunday’s comeback and find some consistency on offense moving forward. Minshew will now have the chance to establish himself as the club’s starter, beginning with their Week 9 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks.
After Sunday’s performance, the veteran quarterback has given Arizona plenty of reason to see what he can do with the starting role.
