On Friday, the Desert Mountain Wolves lost 89-79 against the St. Pius X-St—Matthias Academy Warriors of California.

Despite the loss, Desert Mountain is still ranked as the No. 1 team in the entire state.
After a one-point loss to Pinnacle in their second game of the season, the Wolves went on an eight-game win streak before dropping this one.

They have dominated all season long and are clearly one of the top teams in the state. The Wolves should be treated as a title favorite heading into the open-state playoffs.
Road To A Title
With all of the talent in the state, it is extremely difficult for the team to come out on top as open state champions.
In the state’s first-ever open state bracket last season, Desert Mountain entered as the No.13 seed and made it to the semifinal.
Despite being knocked out by top-ranked and eventual champion Perry Pumas, the Wolves made an incredible run.

Desert Mountain will look to get back on track in their matchup with the 5-1 Gonzaga Prep Bullpups of Washington on Wednesday, Dec 27 @ 4 p.m.
While this is another difficult matchup, the Wolves have proven to be able to compete with high-level teams.
