It started out fantastic for the Sun Devils. Despite not scoring a point in the first three minutes, they simultaneously held the Tigers to two points. But when Kamari Lands sunk two free throws with 17 minutes left in the half, the lid was off. Arizona State went on an 18-6 run, giving them an 18-8 lead with 11 minutes left in the half.

The lid jumped back on, though, as ASU only scored six points in the next 8 minutes. However, their defense stood tall, only allowing the lead to decrease by four. Neal scored the final five points of the half for ASU and gave them a 28-20 lead heading into the break.

Kamari Lands finished with 5. Alonzo Gaffney and Jose Perez each had four. On the Texas Southern side, Jahmar Young Jr scored six points. PJ Henry and Jaylen Wysinger each had four. Arizona State shot 34% from the field, but they cannot hit a three again. They went 1-7 in the first half from deep. It didn’t matter because Texas Southern went 0-11 from deep.

Arizona State has to figure out their second-half shooting if they want to grow this lead.
