World Series Pitching Matchup: Gallen vs. Eovaldi

Zac Gallen is on the mound, and despite how rough he performed in the NLCS, he is still the Diamondback’s ace. Nathan Eovaldi will get Game 1 for the Rangers. The former Red Sox ace, acquired by the Rangers this offseason, was hurt for a bit this year, but when he wasn’t hurt, he was exceptional.

Eovaldi finished with an ERA of 3.63 in 144 innings pitched this year. He struck out 132 and only walked 47. The ace was out for about a month with an Elbow injury he sustained at the end of July. However, Eovaldi was among the Cy Young favorites before he was injured. He was an All-Star this year but did not face the Diamondbacks once. He’s pitched 26 innings this postseason, has allowed only 7 ERs, and has struck out 28. His last start came in Game 6 in Houston, and he threw six innings and only allowed two runs.

Gallen, on the other hand, is among the Cy Young favorites in the NL. He finished with a 3.47 ERA in 210 innings. However, this postseason, he’s not been his sharp self. Gallen has a 5.47 ERA in four games pitched this October. In his last outings, he got destroyed by the Phillies star hitters, allowing five home runs in 11 innings. Gallen allowed a combined nine runs and lost both games he pitched. He’s only faced Texas once this year and was dominant. He only allowed one run in six innings and struck out 11. It was his third-highest strikeout game this year, but that was when Texas was in a big-time slump. They aren’t in that slump anymore, but Gallen is, and he will have to turn things around if they hope to get an upset win in Game 1.

The first pitch is 5:03 p.m. PT tonight for Game 1 of the World Series. It will be a great matchup. Can the Diamondbacks pull it out?
