Danny Trejo, the 25-year-old in his first year with the Rising is winning The Valley’s hearts as he leads the Rising to their first top five finish in two years. After Phoenix’s disappointing 2022 season when they finished 12-6-16, missing the playoffs, the young star is racking up the accolades in the USL and giving the team a much needed boost.

In the Rising’s Saturday night 5-0 blow-out win against the Detroit City FC, Trejo contributed two of the teams five goals.

Channeling 17 goals on the season, Trejo is tied for first place in the Golden Boot race with Pittsburgh Riverhounds’ Albert Dikwa. Close behind in third place with 15 goals, is fellow Rising player Manuel Arteaga.

“Having a teammate in the Golden Boot race motivates me,” said Trejo. “I know I have a good opportunity to reach a personal goal of mine… We know where we want to be (as a team) and we’re working hard to achieve our goals, but if the Golden Boot does come my way, I’ll be very happy.”

An even more impressive statistic for Trejo, he ranks No. 14 in shots attempted throughout the league with 43. He currently boasts a 40% success rate of shots on target finding the back of the net.

Trejo’s performance backed by the rest of the Rising squad moved the team up one spot to No. 4 in the USL Championship Western Group with a record of 12-9-8.

With only five games remaining in the regular season, the teams chances of making the playoffs are starting to appear locked in and Trejo’s wishes of earning the Golden Boot is just one game closer.
