Rising’s Danny Trejo earns USL Player of the Month

Although the Phoenix Rising FC have had several days off from matches, a few of its players have been making headlines during their time off earning USL accolades including honorable mention and player of month.

This past week, Rising defender Mohamed Traore was named to the USL Championship Team of the Week. Hot off of an impressive defensive performance in their recent match against FC Tulsa last Saturday where the match ended knotted 0-0, the Rising’s defense, spearheaded by Traor, garnered national recognition earning an honorable mention.

On Thursday, Danny Trejo added to the Rising’s exciting off-week when he was named August’s USL Player of the Month.

The midfielder is currently the the second contender in the race to the 2023 Golden Boot award with 15 goals this season. He was in first-place prior to last weekends match against Tulsa where he was scoreless for the first time in three games.

Granted, in the month of August alone, Trejo contributed five of the Rising’s 11 goals and added two assists to his stellar month.

The 25-year-old out of Morelia, Mexico was selected 14th by the Los Angeles FC out of California State University, Northridge in the first round of the 2021 MLS draft. Trejo was then signed to Los Angeles’ USL affiliate, the Las Vegas Lights.

In 2022, he was brought up in late August to play in three games with the Los Angeles FC. Following the 2022 season, his player option was not picked up by the team.

The star was succumbed to lots of moving parts in the beginning of career, but found a steady home when he signed with the Phoenix Rising in 2023, starting in 24 matches for the franchise during his first season with the squad.

After an incredible August showing for Trejo and only four games remaining in September, his hot-streak is sure to lead the team to a stellar playoff showing as they hold the No. 5 spot in the Western Group of the USL Championship.
