Summerhays sails through PGA’s Fortinet Championship

Arizona State University Junior, Preston Summerhays took part in the 2023 PGA Fortinet Championship over the weekend. The 21-year-old was the lone amateur in the championship and made the 3-under cut to continue play into the weekend where  held steady in the top 60.

Summerhays and the ASU men’s golf team competed in the Sahalee Player’s Championship on Sept. 9 and 10 where Summerhays finished shooting 5-under par to snag the championship win. Through his vixctory, he earned a PGA exemption spot on PGA’s Fortinet Championship roster.

Through four rounds, Summerhays finished 4-under at Napa Valley’s Silverado Resort, tying for 56th place. Although not his best weekend of rounds, Summerhays placed higher than over a dozen PGA professionals.

On Sunday, Summerhays tied his best round with a 70, bouncing back from his round of 73 on Saturday. The amateur dialed in 13 birdies and one eagle over the four day championship with only nine bogeys and one double-bogey.

The young stand-out ranked first in driving distance off of the tee with an average of 326.8 yards. He had a championship long drive of 352 yards.
