The 2023 NBA draft is one week away and there are already a lot of rumblings on who’s going to trade up or down in the draft.

Look no further, because the Phoenix Suns along with the Milwaukee Bucks and Cleveland Cavaliers are interested in moving up in the draft to get into the late 1st or early 2nd round draft slot in next week’s draft.

According to the Athletic’s Sam Vecenie, the three teams have all  “explored potential opportunities to move up into the late 20s and 30s due to the depth of prospects on the wing and potential NBA-ready, older rotation players.”

The Suns only have 1 selection in the 2023 NBA draft and they’re in desperate need of a depth piece that is ready to contribute to their team now.

A model they can copy is similar to what the NBA champion Denver Nuggets did last year when they selected Christian Braun in the late 1st round of last year’s draft.

Braun ended up being a huge contributor to the NBA Finals this year where he averaged 6 points off the bench including a great 15-point performance in Game 3 while shooting 71% from the floor.

If the Suns can find a rotational piece that can contribute right away as Braun did for the Nuggets, they will love the results going into next year with a much better rotation.

We’ll see if the Suns make the push to do that. Until then, there are a lot of other off-season to-do lists that the Suns need to figure out to get this team back to the NBA Finals.
