Diamondbacks’ six-game win streak halted by Phillies in blowout loss

On a night they will likely want to forget rather quickly, the Arizona Diamondbacks had their six-game win streak snapped with a 15-3 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies.

From start to finish, the Phillies offense was relentless. They would wind up scoring in six different innings, racking up a whopping 20 hits.

It was Zach Davies who got the start for Arizona; he was chased out of the game after throwing three innings, allowing four earned runs.

But after Davies exited, things would only get worse for the Diamondbacks, as the Phillies finished the night with eight different players recording at least two hits.

Things got so bad that the Diamondbacks elected to bring in outfielder Josh Rojas to pitch the ninth inning. This was the first time that the D-backs used a position player to pitch this season.

On the bright side, Arizona did not have to burn through too many bullpen arms, as Joe Mantiply and Jose Ruiz were the only relievers used.

Additionally, Christian Walker had his first four-hit game of the season as he improved his batting average to .313 on the year.

Despite the loss, the Diamondbacks still hold the best record in the National League. Largely due to a rainout that delayed the Atlanta Braves matchup against the Tigers.

The D-backs will now look to bounce back tomorrow night with Merrill Kelly on the mound. First pitch is set for 6:40 PM for the third game of this four-game series against the Phillies.
