The Arizona Diamondbacks have officially reinstated SP Zach Davies from the 15-day IL to make his third start of the season tonight against the Boston Red Sox.
Additionally, the D-backs recalled former 1st round pick Drey Jameson from Triple-A Reno. In return, RHP Brandon Pfaadt and RHP Luis Frías have been sent down.
While the Diamondbacks offense has been consistent all year, the same cannot be said for the starting pitching staff. With three rookies in the rotation, there has been no stability with nearly 1/3 of the 2023 season in the books.
On Friday against the Red Sox, Brandon Pfaadt allowed five runs in 3.2 innings, bringing his ERA above 8 through five starts.
Altogether, the D-backs have a team ERA of 4.54, which is in the bottom ten of the MLB. Yet somehow, they are still seven games above .500 and just 1.5 games behind the Dodgers for first place in the NL West.
Zach Davies will look to snap a two-game losing streak in his first start since April 8th, when he suffered a strained left oblique. First pitch is scheduled for 4:15.
