Could Christian Walker Sneak into the MVP Conversation?

Christian Walker
Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

This season for the Arizona Diamondbacks has been a good one thus far. Leading the way from first base is none other than Christian Walker. With what he is doing both at the plate and on defense, could he sneak into the MVP conversation come August.

He would be on of the longest shots to win the award if everything fell into place. Especially with Ronald Acuna Jr. and the season he is having in Atlanta.

Christian Walker By The Numbers

On the season Walker is having a huge impact at the plate and with the glove. Yesterday in the rubber match against the Pirates he put up 2 hits, scoring 1 run and tapping in 3 RBI’s.

In 2023 he has reach a new level of his game, becoming the force that carries this lineup on a nightly basis.

He is hitting .261/.321/.515 with an OPS of .836. Walker has homered 11 times already in the first quarter of the season, on pace to hit around 37 on the season. I personally think he touches the 40 number.

The part that has been special to me is the RBI numbers. When the hitters in front of him gets on, he rewards them with runs, grabbing 3 RBI’s yesterday, adding to his total on the season (34).

Betting Numbers for NL MVP

It is almost impossible to think that Christian Walker a player that an average MLB fan outside of Phoenix would even know could win an MVP.

Again, especially with what Acuna has done for the Braves. Also in the NL you have big name players such as Alonso, Freeman, Betts, Goldsmith, Arenado.

Yet, Christian Walker deserves to be in that conversation at the bare minimum. His betting number to win the MVP award is 100/1 at the moment which shows how long of a shot the kid has.
