The team announced Sunday that they introduced an alternate black helmet which can be seen with red sparkles on the side.

Fans will get to see these helmets in action for the first time on August 21 when the Cardinals face off against the Baltimore Ravens in a preseason matchup. After that, expect to see them showcased in week five against the Eagles, and finally week seven against the Saints.

The team will only be playing with the new gear three times this year because the helmets have to be matched with the alternate jerseys.

Arizona showed off the new helmets via Twitter on Sunday afternoon:

Player reactions

The helmets received some high praise from the players.  Newly extended quarterback Kyler Murray described them as “beautiful”.

J.J. Watt was a little more focused on how hard the new helmets can hit. He seems to be okay with whatever as long as they do damage.

“I assume it hits people just as hard as with the other helmets, so looking forward to that.”

Cardinals’ owner, Michael Bidwill, had some kind words as well. He shared the same excitement as the rest of the team:

“The look of this helmet is so incredibly sharp and something I know that both our players and fans will absolutely love”

Budda Baker seemed interested in the sparkles; the four-time pro bowler described the color of the helmets as having a “chrome-ish red look”

“I see the red sparkles in there — I think that’s the best part of it…. Play good, look good, feel good for sure.”
