Arizona D-Backs head coach Torey Lovullo mentioned on Friday that Burnes sustained an injury that was worse than expected. He was rolling last Sunday when Burnes called the training staff to come check on his elbow. He mentioned in a clip that his elbow felt dead, and the worst case scenario immediately went through everybody’s heads.

The Snakes recieved various medical opinions and they all came up with the same decision that Burnes should opt for surgery and miss the rest of the 2025 season.

It is almost a certainty that Burnes will miss some of the 2026 season as well, as the D-Backs have taken another massive hit. This unfortunately has hurt Arizona’s ball club as a whole going forward and has changed this entire season.
