The college football world is still reacting from the wild finish in this years Peach Bowl that saw Arizona State’s season come to an end with a 39-31 2OT loss to Texas. While the Sun Devils came up short in the second overtime, many think the game never should’ve gotten there because ASU had a chance to win it in regulation before a controversial non-call on a critical potential targeting against the Long Horns wasn’t called.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark doesn’t appear to agree with the non-call.
In a statement that he gave to Yahoo Sports Ross Dellenger, he said “As a member of the College Football Playoff management committee, I have had multiple discussions seeking clarity surrounding the targeting call on Arizona State’s final drive of the 4th quarter with Richard Clark. Moving forward, we need to address CFP officiating to ensure national standards are developed. These standards will be crucial to the CFP’s future, and I look forward to discussing them with my fellow committee members when we meet next.”
While the statement is in clear support of Arizona State and suggest that he believes the call was missed, its still a weak statement all things considered. Yormark’s job as the commissioner is to support his leagues teams as best he can and one of them just had an egregious call go against them in its biggest game in program history. The Sun Devils can take some consolation in the fact that hopefully the CFP committee will be addressing this issue so that it won’t happen again in the future, but that still won’t change the fact that their season is over and Texas is moving on to the semifinals.
