PHOENIX – The Arizona Diamondbacks may have a reunion opportunity worth exploring. Eugenio Suárez was recently waived by the Cincinnati Reds, opening the door for contenders to consider adding a veteran power hitter for the stretch run. For Arizona, bringing Suárez back to Chase Field would make considerably more sense than it might appear at first glance.

Suárez already understands the organization, the clubhouse, and the environment in Arizona. More importantly, he has demonstrated that Chase Field can be a comfortable launching pad for his power. Last season, he produced 49 home runs and an .824 OPS, establishing himself as one of baseball’s most dangerous power threats before Arizona ultimately traded him to Seattle at the deadline.

The Diamondbacks’ current situation makes the timing especially intriguing. With Arizona battling for a wild-card position and navigating everything surrounding Ketel Marte, adding another established middle-of-the-order option could provide valuable insurance. His most logical path could be as a designated hitter who rotates into the field when needed and shares time at third for Nolan Arenado.

That flexibility matters over the final weeks of a playoff race. Arizona doesn’t necessarily need another superstar. It needs another hitter capable of changing a game with one swing. Suárez also brings something statistics cannot fully measure, which is familiarity. He was a fan favorite during his time with the Diamondbacks, and a return could immediately connect with a fan base that remembers what he brought to the lineup.

Other teams will surely be in the mix as well as teams such as the Toronto Blue Jays and Milwaukee Brewers could also have interest. But if the Diamondbacks want to make one more push, bringing Suárez home could be one of the more logical late season moves available.
