Last season was the last year on contract Torey Lovullo to be the Arizona Diamondbacks manager. After the rebuilding years, there was a somber feeling in the air around him. Many people including myself thought this was the perfect time to get a new face in there and begin a fresh start.

However ownership did not see it that way. After 6 seasons as the manager, the 2017 manager of the year was extended for another season by the club.

Now there is still a long way to go this season, yet it seems the faith in Lovullo is paying off.

This season alone the Diamondbacks are 28-20 through their first 48 games. That record has them 2nd in the NL West division, 1.5 games behind the LA Dodgers.

The D-Backs are also sitting with the 3rd best record in the entire NL, behind Dodgers and Braves. This team is rocking and rolling through the first quarter of the season.

The trade for Moreno and Gurriel Jr. is paying off tremendously, however it is more than that. Lovullo has this team loose yet focused.

One of the hardest things to do in sports is play with a competitive fire yet still be loose enough to perform at your highest level.

After Years of Rebuilding

Since 2019, things have been bleak for the Arizona franchise. The D-backs have been in a huge rebuilding process, trading away tons of fan favorites to acquire young talent for the farm.

Many people assumed as that talent starting coming into the big leagues the front office would bring in a new face to manage them.

However the front office did just the opposite. They trusted the culture and the talent that Lovullo has, and now we are watching it pay off in front of our very eyes.

The Arizona Diamondbacks are at the top of the list in every statistical category, they are winning games at a high level, and the best part to watch; they are having fun doing it.

It has been 7 seasons since the D-backs have made the playoffs, and it appears for now, the drought is almost over. Still a lot of baseball to play, yet this team has something special brewing in the desert.

Faith in Torey Lovullo is paying off.
