GLENDALE – After missing his first career game last week, Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. will make it back-to-back absence. The team announced on Wednesday that Harrison will miss Week 12 vs. the Jacksonville Jaguars as he is still recovering from his appendicitis surgery. With the team’s record, Arizona’s top concern is ensuring its 23-year-old superstar is healthy and has strength to return to the field.

Another reason for the precaution is because of the offense’s production last week, recording 488 total scrimmage yards, with 452 passing yards from quarterback Jacoby Brissett.

Can Cardinals offense replicate last week?

Harrison’s absence allowed for other wide receivers to get more opportunity, including third-year Cardinals wideout Michael Wilson. The former third-round pick recorded a career-high 15 catches for 185 receiving yards, the most by an Arizona wide receiver in nearly a decade. Wilson’s insertion into the WR1 role allowed him to flourish into a masterful performance.

Wilson deserves the credit, but Brissett remains a pleasant surprise for the franchise, setting an NFL record for pass competitions. The 32-year-old’s career-high 452 passing yards is the most by a Cardinals quarterback since Kurt Warner in 2008.

Playing from behind, and the San Francisco 49ers’ defense in a soft coverage, does allow for chunk plays to stack up for massive yards. Regardless, an offense doesn’t get nearly 500 total scrimmage yards by accident, and against the 26th passing defense next week vs. the Jaguars, a repeat performance isn’t out of the question.

The Cardinals will need its former fourth overall pick wide receiver to be successful, but Harrison’s injury and the offense’s production last week, allows the team to put a hold on the young wideout’s return.
