Jacoby Brissett in dream position for Cardinals as a starter in 2025

Syndication: Arizona Republic

GLENDALE – There isn’t much to feel good about when a team is 3-7. However, the booming arrival of decade-long backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett to be the Arizona Cardinals starter has been a treat to watch. In five starts, the 32-year-old has had 1570 passing yards or 318 per start, including his career-high 452 last week vs. the San Francisco 49ers.

Brissett’s performance vs. the San Francisco set an NFL record for pass competitions and becomes only the fifth Cardinals quarterback to throw for 450+ passing yards. Six years after his last full-time starting job, Brissett is playing as good as any starting quarterback in the NFL, a position he’s dreamed about since he was a little kid.

Jacoby Brissett on his dream of being a starter:

Every kid dreams of being a starting quarterback in the NFL. For Brissett, that dream become an afterthought for the past five years, as he was just used as the savvy vet to mentor the younger QBs or as a last resort because of injury. The latter happened with the Cardinals, as Kyler Murray was sidelined with a foot injury. Brissett finally had an opportunity to be a starter, and he wasn’t letting it go to waste.

The years of riding the bench taught him to be humble and prepared for the moment to be on the field. Brissett has gotten tough skin, something you need to survive in this league.

“The most important part is having the gratitude to say, ‘whatever the case may be, I’m still going to enjoy something in this thing that I am doing,'” Brissett said. “Because if you’re not, then you might as well stop. This shit is going to get harder. The older you get, it gets harder, the more you lose, it gets harder. The more noise you hear, it gets harder.”

Arizona placed Murray on IR, essentially naming Brissett the starter. The job isn’t secure, and Brissett understands that fact, which is why he’s still motivated to finish the final seven games of the season strong.
