GLENDALE – Sunday’s 44-22 loss is likely Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon most lopsided loss in his tenure with the franchise. Gannon’s squad found themselves down 35-0 in just a few minutes into the second quarter. The first nine weeks of single-score games makes Week 10’s game an eyesore.

One would believe that Sunday’s blowout loss would alter Gannon’s usual message to his players or the media, but that wasn’t the case.

Gannon on what led to 44-22 loss:
“We had some assignment issues, technique issues. We actually won the double positives, but when you spot a team 14 points on offense and they score on the first three drives and you find yourself down 35-0, that’s a tough hole to come out of. Games can get away pretty quick from you when that happens, but what i do appreciate is that they did battle.
“The effort was there, and they reset themselves, but no one feels good on how that game unfolded.”

The 42-year-old was honest on the team’s shortcomings and explained how inexcusable the mistakes Arizona made. However, he ended his assessment with his trademark message of approval of how the team battled in a loss. Gannon is trying to show to support to his guys, which is what any good coach would do, but when the team has lost six of its last seven games, moral victories aren’t helpful.
The positive energy Gannon tries to elicits does help with team chemistry, which he mentioned about how the team responds to adversity as a unit and how the players support one another. Quarterback Jacoby Brissett echoed that sentiment yesterday and it helps keep control of the locker room.
Despite that fact, control of the locker room won’t matter in job security when the team’s record falls well short of the franchise’s expectations. Gannon understands that and seemed motivated on Monday to flush Sunday’s game, in hope to turn around a disappointing 2025 season.
