PHOENIX — Ketel Marte’s go-ahead three-run homer against the San Francisco Giants that capped a 5-3 comeback win Tuesday may have secured a series victory, but his postgame comments have people talking, too.

After stepping on home plate and being mobbed by his Arizona Diamondbacks teammates, Marte joined the team’s broadcast and said something that resonated just as much as his homer.

“We got a lot of talent here,” Marte said. “They got to make 27 outs. I believe in my guys. I believe in myself, so we got a good team. And everything I see right now, that’s what I [saw] in 2023.”

2023 was the year Arizona made its surprising run to the World Series, creating unforgettable moments throughout both the regular season and postseason. Now, three seasons removed from that National League pennant run, the All-Star second baseman believes this team has that same conviction.

The Diamondbacks were never defined by dominance in 2023, but rather resilience. The Snakes won 84 regular-season games, squeezed into the postseason and used speed, pressure and belief to beat teams such as the Milwaukee Brewers, Los Angeles Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies.

Marte was at the center of it all, earning NLCS MVP honors while setting a postseason hitting streak record.

That same refusal to quit showed itself again Tuesday night against San Francisco. Even when the D-Backs missed opportunities to take control earlier in the game, they continued to put pressure on the Giants until the final out.

Ildemaro Vargas started the rally with a single before Adrian Del Castillo followed with an RBI hit. Catcher’s interference and Ryan Waldschmidt’s walk then set the stage for Marte’s eventual game-winning homer. Patient at-bats and constant pressure helped push Arizona to another comeback victory.

Fans have become used to that mentality — knowing this team is never out of a game until all 27 outs are recorded.

Marte’s quote was not just a callback to a team many doubted during its World Series run. It was also a reminder of the identity the Diamondbacks built in 2023 — and one they believe still exists in 2026.
