Climbing into the National League Wild Card position has shifted the organization’s priorities. The biggest needs remain clear, as the lineup still lacks another dependable left-handed bat capable of producing against quality right-handed pitching, and the rotation could benefit from another proven veteran to lessen the pressure on inexperienced starters.

One intriguing offensive fit for the Diamondbacks is Luis Arraez. Few hitters in baseball control the strike zone like the three-time batting champion. While he won’t overwhelm opponents with power, his ability to consistently reach base would lengthen Arizona’s lineup and create more scoring opportunities for the middle of the order. Veteran Nathaniel Lowe also deserves consideration. His disciplined approach, consistent on-base skills and steady left-handed power have made him one of baseball’s more reliable run producers over the past several seasons. He isn’t flashy, but contenders are often built on dependable veterans who deliver quality at-bats in meaningful games.

On the mound, adding experience may be even more important. Although reinforcements like Michael Soroka, Corbin Burnes, Zac Gallen and Ryne Nelson are working their way back, the Diamondbacks cannot assume perfect health during a playoff chase. Rookie starters Mitch Bratt and Kohl Drake have shown promise, but asking first-year pitchers to carry October expectations is a risky formula.

Former Diamondbacks SP Robbie Ray would provide immediate stability. The veteran left-hander has rediscovered the form that once earned him a Cy Young Award, pitching efficiently while giving his club consistent quality starts. His postseason experience would be invaluable for a rotation filled with uncertainty. Another intriguing possibility is Freddy Peralta. Even if his traditional numbers haven’t matched previous seasons, the underlying metrics suggest he remains capable of front-line production. A change of scenery and meaningful games could unlock the version of Peralta that has twice earned All-Star recognition.

The Diamondbacks don’t need a blockbuster simply to make headlines. They need targeted additions that complement an already talented roster. If Arizona addresses both lineup balance and rotation depth before the deadline, this season could become remembered as more than just a playoff appearance; it could mark the beginning of a sustained championship window.
