Before the baseball even landed beyond the wall Tuesday night, Marte already knew. He flipped his bat and helmet toward the dugout and pounded his chest while thousands of Arizona Diamondbacks fans exploded around him. It wasn’t just a celebration; it felt like relief, and it possibly came at one of the best times for the D-backs. Not only that, but for the first time in his 10-year major league career, Marte had delivered a walk-off home run.

D-backs fans go crazy for Ketel Marte’s first career walk-off home run:

That detail mattered deeply to Arizona fans because few players have carried the emotional weight of this franchise quite like Marte has. Through playoff pushes, rebuild years, and roster turnover, he has remained the steady face of the Diamondbacks. Fans understand that. They also understood how badly he needed this moment. Marte entered the night battling frustration despite consistently hitting the baseball hard.

In other words, the production never fully matched the quality of contact.
That disconnect can wear on hitters mentally over a long season, especially veterans expected to lead a clubhouse nightly. Marte admitted the struggle himself, saying the results had not reflected the work he puts in every day. That’s why the reaction from the crowd felt so personal.
Diamondbacks fans weren’t simply celebrating a home run. They were celebrating one of their own finally getting the moment he deserved.
