PHOENIX — For much of the past few weeks, shots that normally fall for Jalen Green rimmed out. Rhythm came in short moments rather than prolonged stretches.

But lately, the Phoenix Suns guard has started to look like himself again.

After battling through a hamstring injury that kept him out for much of the season and limited his time on the court with his new Phoenix teammates, Green has begun rediscovering the aggressive scoring approach that has defined his young career — and his recent games suggest a gradual return to form.

In his last four games, the guard is averaging 20.3 points while shooting 38.9% from the field. In comparison, in the four games before this stretch, Green averaged 12.75 points while shooting 28.8%. While he was still contributing, there is a clear difference not only in scoring but also in the comfort level he has begun to find with his new team.

“He’s accomplished a lot early in his career,” Ott said postgame on Sunday. “We talked about it. You know, not only did he miss months, not weeks, months, he’s going to have to pick up things midseason in a new city, in a new system with new teammates. And he’s taking steps, and there’s no one harder on him than himself.”

Ott noted that the process of reintegrating a high-usage scorer midseason isn’t just about helping a young guard get back to his old self on the court, but also providing support off it as well.

“So in our positions [as coaches], we’ve got to give him some grace, and we’ve got to help him find his spots and find his rhythm and be there for him,” said Ott. “And that’s what we try to provide every single night for every one of our guys — just support.”

Those “spurts” have helped the Suns significantly as the team continues to battle injuries. Dillon Brooks, Jordan Goodwin and Mark Williams haven’t played in the past few matchups with injuries of their own, but Green has done his best to step up in their positions.

Green has scored at least 20 points in three of his last four games — an indicator that the grace and support he’s received from the organization is beginning to translate into his play.

However, it’s not just about the short-term production, but also unlocking the version of Green that can pressure defenses and change the dynamic of the Suns’ offensive attack. Phoenix is just below the No. 6 seed in the Western Conference, and how Green goes will have an impact on where the team ends up at the end of the regular season.

If the last few games are any indication, the version of Jalen Green the Valley has been waiting for may finally be here — and that could change everything as Phoenix continues its push for a playoff spot this season.

The Suns begin a six-game road trip, taking on the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday, March 10, at 5 p.m.
