Team USA faced Canada in the gold medal game at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics. Considered an underdog entering the matchup, the Americans forced overtime after the teams were tied 1-1 at the end of regulation.
The rivals battled on, where Jack Hughes delivered the game-winning goal 1:41 in overtime. Backed by a 41-save performance from goaltender Connor Hellebuyck, the win marked the program’s third Olympic gold medal in men’s hockey and its first top-podium finish in the event since 1980 — 46 years to the day after the “Miracle on Ice.”
