TORONTO – Arizona couldn’t get anything done on Wednesday as the Diamondbacks were defeated 8-1 by the Toronto Blue Jays and dropped the series.

It was a rough outing as Arizona couldn’t find an answer for the Blue Jays. Toronto picked up right where they left off with solid starting pitching and moonshot home runs. They started on top after Eduardo Rodriguez gave up an early solo homer to Bo Bichette to give Toronto an early 1-0 lead.

Eduardo Rodriguez had a couple of missteps but still was able to keep the D-Backs in the matchup as he pitched 4.2 innings and only gave up two runs on six hits. Eric Lauer made the most of his opportunity as Arizona was only able to get one run in on four hits in five innings. Lauer was pulled after giving a leadoff triple to Corbin Carroll in the top of the sixth inning. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. was able to hit a ground ball to score Carroll bringing the Toronto lead to 2-1.

The game was relatively close until the relief pitchers for Arizona didn’t show up yet again. Tayler Scott gave up a double to Addison Barger that scored Alan Roden and elected not to walk Vladimir Guerrero Jr., which allowed another double that brought in two more runs and gave Toronto a 5-1 lead. Kevin Ginkel had pitching duties in the seventh inning and gave up three earned runs to let Toronto blow it open, and give them the lead and the eventual final score of 8-1.

Arizona now will look to avoid the sweep tomorrow in the series finale against the Blue Jays at the Rogers Centre on Thursday afternoon.
