PHOENIX – The Phoenix Suns’ prized possession heading into the offseason is 15-time All-Star Kevin Durant. The 36-year-old is the franchise’s most valuable available asset this summer to try and reset the team after a horrendous 36-46 season. Teams around the league have interested in Durant, but one of the suitors reportedly won’t unload picks to trade for the former MVP.

Miami Herald writer Barry Jackson wrote that the Heat will not throw an excessive amount of picks towards the Suns way in any Durant deal.

Jackson on Suns potential package for Durant:

“The sense here is that while the Heat might again pursue Phoenix’s Kevin Durant, Miami isn’t going to offer all of its first-round inventory for a 36-year-old with one year left on his contract,” said Jackson “But Houston’s interest in Durant has been overstated, according to reports. Minnesota could become a top contender for Durant if the Wolves don’t win a championship.”

Durant is still one of the top scoring wings in the game, averaging 26.6 points on 52.7% shooting. However, teams like the Heat aren’t willing to risk their future to secure the Phoenix forward. The 2025-2026 season will be the final year of his contract, that and Durant’s age make him a risky gamble for a team trying to contend.

The Heat got dominated in the most lopsided 1st round series in NBA history, so adding Durant likely won’t fix the more glaring issues surrounding the roster. Other possible suitors, like the Houston Rockets and Minnesota Timberwolves, could be more likely to give the Suns more of an ideal package, with them closer to contending the postseason.
