The Snakes started strong, as Corbin Burnes was dialed in for the Snakes as he pitched 5.1 innings and gave up three runs but only one earned run on three hits. Arizona jumped out to an early lead in the first inning, as Josh Naylor hit a single to right that scored Corbin Carroll in the bottom of the first inning. Shortly after in the second inning, Alek Thomas hit a double to right that scored Gabriel Moreno. Corbin Carroll tacked on another run as he grounded out but scored Eugenio Suárez as the D-Backs jumped out to an early 3-0 lead.

The Rays started creeping up on the Snakes after Burnes exited Thursday night. Ryne Nelson came in and pitched a majority of the rest of the game. Nelson went 2.1 innings and gave up three hits and one run. Head coach Torey Lovullo turned to Shelby Miller to close out the top of the ninth inning, as he got out of the jam stranding two runners. Lovullo then called for newcomer J.P. Feyereisen to pitch in the top of the tenth, and it all went downhill from there. He gave up three runs that cemented the victory and series win for Tampa Bay.
