This season has been abysmal for outfielder Jake McCarthy, as he has been struggling at the plate going 3-for-41 with a .073 batting average to start off the 2025 season. He has no home runs on the season, just three RBIs, and only one stolen base in 14 games this season for the Diamondbacks.
One of the bigger storylines this spring training was who was going to win the starting spot out in centerfield, coming down to Jake McCarthy and Alek Thomas. Thomas has seemingly won that job as of now, as he is hitting .283 on the season including 10 RBIs.

The team has yet to make a formal announcement, but this was found on the Diamondbacks website on their transaction logs page. From what it sounds like, the D-Backs will be calling up outfielder Jorge Barrosa to take McCarthys spot. Barrosa has had a decent campaign so far for the Reno Aces as he is slashing .295/.362/.495 with three homers and 15 RBI. John Gambadoro from Arizona Sports 98.7 radio mentioned Barrosa being the one called up.
I expect Jorge Barrosa will be the call up to replace Jake McCarthy who was optioned to Triple A

This D-Backs team needs consistency at the plate in the back half of the lineup, something they will be looking for anywhere they can. Arizona takes on Tampa Bay next as they begin a three-game homestand against the Rays tomorrow Tuesday, April 22nd. The first pitch is at 6:40 p.m. MST.
