PHOENIX –The only representation for Arizona State football at this year’s NFL Draft Combine is phenomenon running back Cam Skattebo. In his senior season, Skattebo dominated opponents, rushing for over 1,700 yards and earning fifth in the Heisman voting. His heroics earned him an invite to the combine. However, Skattebo told reporters on Friday that he’ll be skipping a majority of the combine drills, focusing only on vertical and broad jumps.

A concern surrounding Skattebo is his speed not being league-level. Electing not to the 40-yard dash is a conservative move not to tank his draft stock. 40-yard-dash times make or destroy players, so Skattebo feels confident in his play on the field at ASU.
Skattebo said this to reporters on Friday.
“I’m physical. People don’t think I’m as fast as I am, which I am fast. Punish the defender because they don’t want to do it for four quarters, My objective at the end of the day is to get to the end zone. Being able to do that the way I do it, it works, so I’m going to continue to do it until it doesn’t work and then figure out how to make something work.”

ESPN has the ASU back as the fifth-ranked running back prospect heading into the NFL draft. Skattebo still has multiple avenues to impress teams, with ASU’s Pro Day and Big 12 Pro Day still available in March.
