The 6-foot-5, 252-pound sophomore played 11 games this year for the Wildcats and corralled five catches for 29 yards. He missed the final game of Kentucky’s season against Louisville with an injury.
Kentucky finished second-to-last in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) with a 1-7 conference record and 4-8 overall, missing out on a bowl game. Only Mississippi State (2-10, 0-8 SEC), who ASU beat 30-23 on Sept. 7, was worse.
Out of Cass Technical High School in Detroit, Mich., Anderson was a highly sought-after four-star recruit ranked by 247Sports. He originally attracted offers from Wisconsin, Washington, USC, Western Michigan, Toledo, Pittsburgh, Ole Miss, Michigan, Michigan State, Miami (Ohio), Marshall, Louisville, Liberty, Kent State, Jackson State, Indiana, Howard, Eastern Michigan, Cincinnati, Central Michigan, Auburn, Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Alabama before pledging to Kentucky.
Making the switch to Arizona State, Anderson is joining a strong tight end group under coach Jason Mohns.
With five touchdowns and 290 yards from 29 receptions, Chamon Metayer has shined since joining the Sun Devils from Cincinnati and received second-team All-Big 12 honors as a result. Anderson will most likely split up backup duties behind Metayer with Cameron Harpole after Markeston Douglas announced he is transferring back to Florida State.
After ASU landed Washington State safety Adrian Wilson on Monday, the Sun Devils have six new additions to the roster via the transfer portal. Anderson, Wilson, running back Kanye Udoh (Army), wide receiver Jalen Moss (Fresno State), kicker Jesus Gomez (Eastern Michigan) and wide receiver Noble Johnson (Clemson) are all heading to Tempe next season.
