The redshirt junior had a bigger role at Florida State in his first go-around than at ASU, catching 25 passes for four touchdowns and 336 yards. On each reception, he averaged 13.0 yards per catch.
For the Sun Devils, Douglas caught one pass for three yards against Mississippi State at the beginning of the season. He has played in all 13 games so far but hasn’t recorded another statistical marker.
With Cincinnati transfer Chamon Metayer starting and instantly emerging as a crucial player to offensive coordinator Marcus Arroyo’s unit, Douglas was unable to put up similar numbers to what he had for the Seminoles. Metayer has totaled 290 yards and five touchdowns from 29 receptions this year.
After weighing his options, the Tennessee native Douglas will be returning to Florida State following the end of this season. The former three-star recruit stands at 6-foot-5, 275 pounds.
Even though he has his eyes on going back to FSU, Douglas is still practicing and being involved with his teammates at Arizona State before they play in the College Football Play.
“Markeston is practicing. He committed to Florida State which is awesome for him getting back to where he started,” ASU head coach Kenny Dillingham said after practice Monday. “He’s out here practicing, he is going to be huge for us in the Peach Bowl.”
The Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl will commence on Jan. 1, 2025, at 11 a.m. MST in Atlanta, Ga. ASU will go up against the winner of the first-round tilt this Saturday between No. 5 Texas and No. 12 Clemson.
