ASU receiving votes as resume lacks signature win

The Arizona State men’s basketball season is starting to pick up steam as they are preparing to open up Big 12 play. The Sun Devils finished their non-conference play with a 16-point win over UMass to improve their record to 9-2 before league play gets started. Despite their solid record, ASU continues to get minimal national recognition as they received just 13 votes in this weeks AP Top-25 Polls.

The biggest reason for the snub is the lack of a signature win on the Sun Devils resume. ASU has a very good 3 point win over a New Mexico team who is 9-3 on the year. They also tout a solid win over a St. Clara team who isn’t as good this season as they have been over the past few. Other than that though, most their wins are coming against teams under .500 on the season, or mid majors who haven’t played anyone. But while their resume lacks some impressive wins, it doesn’t have any jarring losses either. ASU’s only losses this season came to Gonzaga and to Florida, who are both ranked in this weeks polls.

ASU will get its shot though to show they are deserving of being in the polls as their scheduled ramps up now headed into Big 12 play with their conference opener set for December 31st at BYU.
