Just a couple of days later, however, some players had put their excitement to the side and made tough decisions on what they think is best for their future.

On Monday, nine different players entered the transfer portal when it opened to find a new opportunity elsewhere. The portal will close on Dec. 28.

Sun Devils heading to the portal

  • Cornerback LT Weltch
  • Wide receiver Korbin Hendrix
  • Safety Kamari Wilson
  • Defensive lineman Kyran Bourda
  • Cornerback Keontez Bradley
  • Defensive end J’Mond Tapp
  • Wide receiver Kaleb Black
  • Tight end Markeston Douglas
  • DT Tristan Monday

The name that pops out from the list is LT Welch who has been one of the key contributors on defense for Arizona State this season.

According to 247Sports‘ Chris Karpman, the Louisana native Weltch has not been with the team since the Territorial Cup two weeks ago against Arizona.

“Sources: CB LT Welch was dismissed from ASU’s team for a rules violation after the Arizona game,” Karpman said. “He did not practice with the Sun Devils last week nor travel to the Big 12 Championship Game. He’s in the portal.”

Welch played nine games, totaling 19 tackles and two interceptions, including a pick-six against UCF.

After two seasons at Florida, Kamari Wilson transferred to ASU but will re-enter the portal after one season in Tempe. He collected 11 tackles in 12 games this year.

Kamari Wilson, DB, (20) attempts to catch the ball during ASU fall camp practice on Aug. 2, 2024, at Verde Dickey Dome in Tempe.

Spending two years at Florida State, Markeston Douglas joined Arizona State and picked up a three-yard reception against Mississippi State at the beginning of the season. The junior hasn’t played since.

Freshman Keontez Bradley played two games as a Sun Devil this season but hasn’t appeared since the 30-22 loss to Texas Tech on September 21. He racked up three tackles.

Tristan Monday left the program in early October before entering the portal while Kaleb Black, Kyran Boudra, J’Mond Tapp and Korbin Hendrix did not play this season.

There have not been any additions to the ASU roster since the portal officially opened. When news drops of either more departures or players transferring to Arizona State, Burn City Sports will keep you up-to-date.
