Posted on X/Twitter, redshirt freshman linebacker K’Vion Thunderbird announced he will enter the portal.

“First and foremost, I want to thank God for blessing me with the ability to play football and be in the position that I’m in,” Thunderbird said. “I also want to thank my family for their love and support through this process. I would also like to thank Arizona State University for providing me with the opportunity to live my dream, and for giving me brothers that I will hold bonds with forever. I also want to thank the whole coaching staff for believing in me and developing me as a player.

“With that being said, I will be entering the transfer portal with three years of eligibility left.”

Playing nine games this season, Thunderbird’s standout performance was when he had four tackles and a sack in the season-opening 48-7 victory over Wyoming. He appeared in two games last year and recorded a tackle.

In high school, Thunderbird was ranked a three-star prospect by 247Sports out of Kenwood Academy in Chicago. He received offers from Penn State, Iowa, Illinois, California, Kansas, Western Michigan, Wyoming, Toledo, Tennessee, Purdue, Oregon, Ole Miss, Michigan State, Nebraska, Miami (Ohio), Missouri, Colorado, Central Michigan, Ball State, Buffalo, Akron and Auburn before choosing Arizona State.

He is listed as a 6-foot, 225-pound linebacker.

While this is redshirt senior Caleb McCullough’s last season, ASU still has a host of talent in the linebacker position even with Thunderbird’s departure. Keyshaun Elliott, Tate Romney, Jordan Crook, Martell Hughes and Zyrus Fiaseu have all impressed this season and have eligibility left.
