The Seattle Seahawks took a big lead into the second half of their division rematch with the Arizona Cardinals, resting on the shoulders of backup running back Zach Charbonnet.

Charbonnet rushed for 87 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries in an absolutely dominant first half.

His 8.7 yard per carry first half was highlighted by a 51-yard scamper to close out the second quarter. Charbonnet found a crease on 2nd & 5 with less than three minutes to play in the second quarter and broke free to put a stamp on a productive first half.

Charbonnet’s half-field length score was preceded by a one-yard touchdown run to close out the first quarter as a result of the second of two Kyler Murray first quarter picks.

The Seattle running back is filling in for usual starter Kenneth Walker III, who was ruled out a few hours before the game and is fairing better than Seattle’s usual man in the backfield did two weeks ago. Charbonnet’s 87 first half yards doubled Walker’s 41-yard finish in the Seahawks’ 16-6 loss to the season, and there is still a lot of game left to play.

Both teams are improving upon their previous running performances, seeing Cardinals running back James Conner reach 34 yards on 8 carries (4.25 ypc) in the first half, which is a drastic improvement from his 8 yards from 7 carries (1.1 ypc) in their first encounter.

While Conner’s efforts are better than before, it hasn’t been enough for the Cardinals keep up with the Seahawks. If Arizona wants to win the game, they are going to have to slow down Charbonnet.
