Seahawks View Cardinals Game as Playoff Preview

Arizona Cardinals safeties Joey Blount (32) and Dadrion Taylor-Demerson (42) celebrate after beating the New York Jets 31-6 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale on Nov. 10, 2024.

The Seahawks had some adverse weather while preparing to host their rivals the Arizona Cardinals Sunday, at practice this week. Reports of damaging winds seemed to be a small focus when talking about going head-to-head on Sunday with the Arizona Cardinals ” …thought it was kind of fun,” said Mike Macdonald when talking about the facility issues and the positive mindset getting the team through. Last week after the Seahawks finally beat the San Francisco 49ers for the first time in seven meetings there was a new mentality for the team. Seattle came back from being two games behind two other teams in the NFC West and three back of the 49ers, to tie with the Rams and 49ers at 5-5, just a game behind 6-4 Arizona.

Key focus: Cardinals Week 12 vs. Seahawks weather impacts

The Seattle Times reported that Quarterback Geno Smith said entering the San Francisco game he took Seattle’s six-game losing streak against the Niners “very personal.” Then, after his final drive and touchdown to beat the 49ers Sunday, Smith said: “We knew what was at stake.”

Coach Mike Macdonald and the team’s approach is to not declare this as an ordinary game and also isn’t treating this week facing the division leader Cardinals the same as week two against the Patriots.

“We’re treating this like a home playoff game for us,” Macdonald said, discussing playing quarterback Kyler Murray and Arizona. The Seattle Times also reported today, “Put it this way, look, we’ve earned the opportunity to be fighting for the lead in the division going into the homestretch. So, that’s the way we’re treating it. It’s very much like a playoff mindset for us at this point. (We) can’t afford to drop games. You want to have the right to play for these really important games in December and January. You’ve got to be able to execute and put yourself in that situation. It’s basically a December football game.”

Smith spoke similarly.

“Anybody can go get this division the last seven games of the season,” he said. “So, really, it’s going feel like playoff games, every single one. The division games are going to feel like you won two games because they’re going to matter that much.”

The Cardinals are flying to maintain their NFC West top spot as they meet up with Seattle for a 1:25 p.m. game on Sunday at Lumen Field. The game is a big divisional matchup, it is critical for both teams and will test one another’s strengths on both ends of the field. For Seattle, they view this as their championship game to ensure they are still playing come January. This rivalry is heating up, do not miss it.
