Doing his part to help the Diamondbacks avoid a series sweep at the hands of the Rockies, Corbin Carroll got the afternoon going with a solo home run to deep right field. The blast marked Carroll’s 20th home run of the season and secured his place in the 20/20 club—his second consecutive season reaching 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases since debuting in the majors.

After posting an impressive rookie campaign with 25 home runs and 54 stolen bases, Carroll has added 20 home runs and 29 stolen bases this season. This makes him just the fifth player in Diamondbacks’ history to record multiple 20/20 seasons, joining an exclusive group that includes Chris Young, Paul Goldschmidt, Justin Upton, and Eric Byrnes.

Notably, Young is the only other player in franchise history to achieve this milestone more than twice. Given Carroll’s pace, having accomplished the feat in both of his first two seasons, it seems likely he could set the franchise record within the next few years.

Though Carroll reached the 20/20 mark with ease in 2023, this season’s journey has been a bit more challenging. After battling a sophomore slump earlier in the year, he caught fire in the second half of the season, with 15 of his 20 home runs coming over the last two months.

Carroll’s historic season doesn’t stop there. Following his home run against the Rockies, Carroll is now on the brink of joining a rare group of players, including Willie Mays, Andy Van Slyke, Carlos Beltrán, and Bobby Witt Jr., who have recorded at least 10 triples, 20 home runs, and 30 stolen bases in multiple seasons. He needs just one more stolen base to join this illustrious group, according to MLB analyst Ryan Spaeder.

In his 2nd at-bat against the Rockies on Wednesday, Carroll launched another homer, his 21st of the season. This time, it was a two-run shot to build the D-backs’ lead to five runs.
