ASU basketball confirms home-and-home series with Gonzaga, starting this season in Spokane

After CBS Sports college basketball insider Jon Rothstein first reported that ASU men’s basketball was setting up a home-and-home series with Gonzaga, Arizona State confirmed the news via a press release as both teams will face each other beginning this season.

The Sun Devils will first travel to Spokane on Nov. 10 and face the Bulldogs at McCarthey Athletic Center. After this year, Gonzaga will go up against ASU in Tempe in the 2025-26 season. The time of the first game and the date/time for the return game to Arizona have yet to be released.

When these two programs clash this fall, it will be the first time ever.

“We are thrilled to announce a home-and-home series with Gonzaga,” Sun Devils head coach Bobby Hurley said in the press release. “McCarthey Athletic Center and ‘The Kennel’ provide one of the premier atmospheres in college basketball. It will present a fantastic road environment for our team early in the season. It was also important for us to secure a home game with a marquee opponent in 2025 for our amazing fan base.”

Being a college basketball powerhouse for more than a decade, Gonzaga will look to build on their success from last year in the West Coast Conference (WCC) after going 14-2 in the conference and 27-8 overall. The Bulldogs have made it to the Sweet 16 in nine of the past 10 seasons, minus 2020.

For Arizona State, the Sun Devils finished with a 14-18 season last year and will look to face tough, non-conference competition as they prepare to compete in the Big 12. During the offseason, ASU added five-star recruits Jayden Quantaince and Joson Sanon to the roster who are projected to be stars on Hurley’s reconstructed roster.

ASU has not released the full 2024-25 season schedule, but has confirmed a few other enticing matchups. Besides Gonzaga, the Sun Devils will also face in-state rival GCU on Nov. 14, will go up against New Mexico on Nov. 28, St. Mary’s/USC on Nov. 29, Florida on Dec. 14 and UMass on Dec. 21.
