Reddick, 29, was a first round selection by the Arizona Cardinals in the 2017 MLB Draft. Initially deployed as an inside linebacker, they moved him to an outside linebacker spot, where he blossomed with 12.5 sacks. In each of the past four seasons, he’s recorded at least 11.0 sacks, including a career-high 16.0 with the Eagles with Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon as the defensive coordinator.
After two seasons in Philadelphia, Reddick was traded to the Jets for a conditional pick. The conditional pick starts as a third rounder in the 2026 NFL Draft, the pick could upgrade to a second if he plays more than 67.5% of the snaps and records at least 10.0 sacks in 2024.
The Cardinals would be a logical trade candidate given Reddick’s success under Gannon, but Jets GM Joe Douglas released a statement that they will not trade him. Connor Hughes of SNYtv adds that the Jets are uninterested in working out a potential deal until the eighth-year edge rusher shows up, refusing to cater to a player who has yet to play a down for them without committing to them first. Since he’s on the final year of a three-year, $45 million contract he signed with the Eagles, should he not report to the Jets and hold out for the entire season, it tolls into 2025.
It will be interesting to see how this saga unfolds. Reddick would only need to report for six games in order to accrue an entire season and reach free agency next March.
