PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks are reportedly closing in on a deal with a widely regarded No. 2 prospect for the upcoming KBO Draft.

According to baseball reporter Francys Romero, the Diamondbacks will sign Korean two-way prospect Junsang Eom for the 2025-26 international signing period, a move that showcases the organization’s continued investment in the international market.
Eom, just 17, is expected to sign for more than $1 million. The right-hander has drawn attention for a sharp slider and a highly effective splitter, a combination that has already separated him from other prospects. His pitching profile is considered the most advanced part of his game, while his abilities at shortstop have also made him an intriguing player.

The signing reflects Arizona’s emphasis on identifying high-upside talent overseas before it reaches the professional ranks. The D-Backs have leaned into the international pipeline in recent years as a way to supplement their farm system with high-ceiling players who can develop over time in the minor leagues.
One example is shortstop Geraldo Perdomo, who was signed as an international talent from the Dominican Republic and has become one of the cornerstones of the current D-Backs team.

Moves like these represent the earliest stages of future core players, long before they reach the United States. While Eom is years away from the majors, the organization’s willingness to invest in him signals both confidence in his tools and its player development system.
If Eom develops as projected, the signing could eventually be viewed as another example of Arizona’s ability to uncover impact talent early and strengthen its long-term pitching depth.
