Copper stepped up big with 10 fourth-quarter points in today’s 67-66 gold medal victory over France for the USA women’s basketball team, who has now won eight straight gold medals and hasn’t lost since 1992 (61-0 since then). Copper finished with 12 points and two steals in the win for her first gold medal.

Although she did not play in the final, Taurasi cemented her GOAT status with her sixth Olympic gold medal, surpassing Sue Bird for the most ever in women’s basketball. She finishes her Olympic career with a perfect 44-0 record and has also won gold in the 2004 Athens, 2008 Beijing, 2012 London, 2016 Rio de Janeiro and 2021 Tokyo Games.

Booker and Durant both finished with 15 points in the USA men’s basketball gold medal game yesterday against France, a 98-87 victory. Durant became the most decorated Olympian in men’s basketball history, as he is now the first player ever to have four gold medals. Booker received a lot of praise throughout the run for his ability to play multiple roles and ended with his second gold medal after winning his first one in Tokyo in 2021. Durant also was on this team, but was then on the Brooklyn Nets.

“It’s a basketball town and we want to put the city on the map,” Booker said of Phoenix’s Olympic representation last week. “No better way than winning gold.”
