PHOENIX — Former Phoenix Suns guard Cameron Payne signed a one-year deal with the New York Knicks, the team announced Monday.

As if the Knicks needed more chemistry, Payne reunites with former Suns teammate Mikal Bridges, who he has a great relationship with, in New York. Bridges was traded to the Knicks earlier this summer and joined forces with his former Villanova national championship teammates Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart and Donte DiVincenzo.

The 29-year-old Payne spent last season with the Milwaukee Bucks and Philadelphia 76ers and was an unrestricted free agent. He averaged 7.4 points and 2.6 assists across 78 games between Milwaukee and Philadelphia.

The Suns took a chance on Payne in the bubble in 2020, signing him after he had been playing overseas. He eventually helped them to an undefeated 8-0 record in Orlando. It turned into three more very productive seasons in Phoenix.

In total, Payne played 174 regular season games and 42 playoff games for the Suns. He averaged 9.8 points and 4.2 assists in just over 20 minutes per game in the regular season.

The Suns traded Payne to the Spurs last July, saving a projected $26.4 million in luxury tax. He was later waived before signing with the Bucks.

Payne was arrested earlier this summer in Scottsdale for refusing to provide officers with his real name and providing a “false report” to officers.
