The 29-year-old Payne spent last season with the Milwaukee Bucks and Philadelphia 76ers and is an unrestricted free agent this summer.
The Suns took a chance on Payne in the bubble in 2020, signing him after he had been playing overseas. He eventually helped them to an undefeated 8-0 record in Orlando. It turned into three more very productive seasons in Phoenix.
In total, Payne played 174 regular season games and 42 playoff games for the Suns. He averaged 9.8 points and 4.2 assists in just over 20 minutes per game in the regular season.
The Suns traded Payne to the Spurs last July, saving a projected $26.4 million in luxury tax. He was later waived before signing with the Bucks.
Payne averaged 7.4 points and 2.6 assists across 78 games between Milwaukee and Philadelphia this past season.
