LAS VEGAS — After an eventful road trip, the Arizona Diamondbacks couldn’t make it home Wednesday night after their series finale against the Boston Red Sox.

According to MLB.com’s Steve Gilbert, the team’s charter plane left Boston after their 7-6 extra-inning win over the Red Sox, but due to a storm that went through Phoenix, they couldn’t land. After going around for about an hour, the crew had no choice but to divert to Las Vegas to refuel and time out.
The Diamondbacks stayed in Las Vegas for the night, and Gilbert reports that the team would make its way to Arizona Thursday morning.
Needless to say, the unexpected detour has been the cherry on top of an already strange week for the D-Backs.

That strangeness began Monday night, when Arizona found itself without its All-Star second baseman, Ketel Marte, just moments before first pitch. Marte was then placed on the restricted list with no known public reason for his absence as he made his way back to Phoenix.
Without their second baseman, Arizona dropped the first two games to Boston before salvaging the series with Wednesday’s win.

Now, after everything that’s happened over the last few days, the D-Backs finally get to head home and try to put the weirdness behind them. Despite all the twists and turns, Arizona is still firmly in the thick of the National League playoff race.
The D-Backs will look to carry the momentum from Wednesday’s extra-inning win into their next home series, where they’ll have a chance to settle back in, regroup and continue their push toward October.

After a week that has been anything but normal, getting back home might be exactly what the team needs.
